Lions honour long service

Canowindra’s Bill Paul has been recognised for 55 years service to Lions.

Joining a service club – Lions, Apex or Rotary – was just what you did when Bill was young but Lions has certainly stood the test of time and he’s continued his involvement.

The group fundraises one steak sandwich or chocolate wheel at a time for global causes like Save Sight, through to local causes like the town clock.

“It’s been a long time project,” Bill said of the town clock replacement.

He says Lions are here to support people in our community, and also contribute to international causes such as disaster relief which do then pour back into our region when we’re in need.

The group’s not only a way to serve the community, it’s a way to connect with great people as well – and more volunteers are very welcome.

“We meet twice a month, we have a meal together, it’s great,” Bill said.

The club is preparing for the huge weekend of the balloon challenge, so look out for the Lions barbecue and remember you can support local.
