There are three new Australian citizens in our midst who were celebrated during a special ceremony last week.
Parkes Shire Council hosted a citizenship ceremony at its chambers on 18 February.
Ali Hassan, Laura Vets and Pasansana Deveen Gunadasa (Percy) made the pledge to Australia in the presence of their family and friends and Parkes Shire councillors.
Ali was born in Pakistan and arrived in Australia in July 2017 where he lived in Perth and other major cities like Melbourne and Sydney, before moving to Parkes from Newcastle last March.
Ali has a wife and three children - two daughters and a son living in Pakistan because his daughters are studying and waiting for the right time to move to Australia.

He works as a telecommunication technician as a subcontractor with NBN and has a postgraduate degree in project management from Edith Cowan University in Western Australia.
Ali enjoys networking, playing with technology and watching movies.
Laura was born in Belgium and arrived in Australia from Bali in 2018.
She works as an inventory controller at PFD Food Services. She also enjoys going to the gym and cooking.
Percy was born in Sri Lanka. He first arrived in Sydney and then came to Parkes.
He is a medical professional who travels around for his job and he enjoys exercising and travelling in his spare time.
The ceremony concluded with the Australian National Anthem and afternoon tea.
