Help clean-up Parkes this Sunday

Help to make this year's Clean Up Australia Day its biggest ever as this national day of volunteering celebrates 35 years of improving and conserving the environment, one piece of litter at a time.

Clean Up Australia Day occurs annually around the country on the first Sunday in March, with this year's gathering to take place on March 2.

The Parkes Headquarters Rural Fire Brigade is joining forces with Parkes Shire Council to organise the clean-up locally and they're encouraging as many residents to get involved as possible.

Take part by heading to Lions Park at 8am on Sunday to register.

Over 22 million Aussies have stepped up over the years, pulled on their gloves and donated their time to improve the environment.

Registration for Clean Up Australia Day is free for communities and schools (businesses pay a small fee) and this ensures that not only are you covered by its public liability insurance, but you'll receive a free Clean Up kit with all the materials required.

"It's hard to believe that what was started 35 years ago, by Ian Kiernan AO, an 'average Australian' who had a simple idea to make a difference in his own backyard has now become the nation's largest community-based environmental event, held annually on the first Sunday in March," a Clean Up Australia Day spokesperson said.
